The Caller to Allah, as-Sayyid Muhammad bin Abdur-Rahman as-Saqqaf

Birth and Upbringing

He is as-Sayyid Muhammad bin ‘Abdur-Rahman bin ‘Alawi as-Saqqaf Ba ‘Alawi.

His lineage goes back to al-Imam al-Husayn who is the son of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib and Fatima az-Zahra the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family and companions.

He was raised in a family of knowledge. Each one of his forefathers in his blessed chain that goes back to his great-grandfather, peace and blessings be upon him, was a Scholar.

He was born in the city of Seyun in Hadramawt in 1392 AH (1972). At the age of four, he moved to Jeddah, in the land of the Hijaz in Saudi Arabia. There, he studied his academic knowledge from primary to university.

He received his education in the Sacred Sciences and the Science of Spiritual Wayfaring at the hands of several of the greatest Scholars. He received authorization from them to teach and call to Allah. Among them:

The erudite Scholar, Shaykh and Imam of his era, al-Habib ‘Abdul-Qadir bin Ahmad as-Saqqaf (may Allah shower Mercy upon him). He kept his company and attended his lessons in the Books of Prophetic narrations. He also studied several books directly under him.

The erudite Scholar and Guide, the Imam of Da’wah (Calling to Allah), al-Habib Ahmad Mashhur bin Taha al-Haddad (may Allah shower Mercy upon him). He kept his close company and was regarded by the Shaykh as one of his sons. He studied several books under him.

The erudite Scholar and Islamic Thinker, al-Habib Abu Bakr bin ‘Ali al-Mashhur (may Allah preserve him). He always attended his gathering at the ‘Isa`i Mosque and studied several books under him. He proofread some of the Shaykh’s works and participated in some of the his da’wah travels and continues to do so.

The erudite Scholar, the Muhaddith of the Two Sacred Sanctuaries, as-Sayyid Muhammad ‘Alawi al-Maliki. He attended his gatherings and studied a little under him in his blessed gathering in Makka al-Mukarrama. The Shaykh authorized him in his books and narrations.

Thereafter, he kept the company of the erudite Scholar, the Spiritual Master, the Renewer, al-Habib ‘Umar bin Muhammad bin Salim bin Hafiz (may Allah preserve him). He studied under him, attended his gatherings, and accompanied him on many of his travels and activities. And he continues to do so. All Praise be to Allah.

 

His Life’s Motto

Imami Amami (My Imam is right in front of me)

He has directed his full attention to emulating the Messenger of Allah, reviving his way, seeking his companionship and delighting his noble heart, peace and blessings be upon him.

 

Activities

 

He founded numerous gatherings of knowledge and calling to Allah in the Hijaz and other places. The most famous of these is the Burda gathering in Jeddah and the late afternoon lesson at his home.

He founded the al-‘Irth an-Nabawi (Prophetic Inheritance) circles of knowledge for male and female students. It is a curriculum that qualifies the student to later teach and carry out da’wah. The student attains a certificate and authorization.


He headed the Executive Board of Dar al-Mustafa in Tarim. He was then the Dean’s Deputy in Educational and Da’wah affairs.
